PH:
·
Measured on a scale 0 very acidic to 14 very basic with a ph of 7 being neutral.
Ph can be affected by many things such as:
Dissolved CO2 forms carbonic acid which lowers ph when water containing CO2 is depressurized the CO2 is released and the ph raises.
Hard water is usually slightly basic
Typically groundwater ranges between 6.5 to 8.5
Acidic water is often corrosive and can leach metals out of plumbing
Basic water above 8.5 tends to have a bitter or salty taste
Treatment Options
Acidic water can be treated by passing it thru a filter bed containing granular lime or calcium carbonate.
Basic water should be treated with an acid injection system
TDS:
Total dissolved solids is a measurement of all the ionic constituents of water.
Sodium, Chloride, Iron, Sulfate, carbonates, and bicarbonates.
Since this a measure of all dissolved solids in the water we usually use as it an indicator if further tests need to ran by a state certified lab to check for other substances that may be in the water.
