Turbidity
·
Haziness in water caused by insoluble particles suspended in the water.
Can be caused by colloidal clays which usually impart a gray color to the water and is common in area where the bedrock is shale .
Treatment Options
Sometimes turbidity if caused by sand or iron can be removed by either a cartridge filter or spin out filter.
If turbidity is caused by colloidal clay then an alum injection system is needed to settle out the clay.
Sulfur:
Rotten egg smell and can cause black stains on fixtures and tarnishes silver.
Is a gas and can vary based on the barometric pressure. Must be checked on site to get an accurate measurement.
Sulfur can be removed either thru aeration, a chlorination dechlorination system, or a combination of the two.
Methane:
Colorless odorless gas that is flammable noted by gas bubbles in the water or spitting from the faucet.
Should be treated with aeration.
